About us and our puppies... |
A good dog has no color ! |
Hey everyone,
First of all I want to thank you for expressing interest in our puppies. Before we embark on this journey together I feel I must share some info with you !
We are a small kennel and we only plan to have 1-2 litters / year. This is most important for us because each and every litter needs attention and dedication. The puppies are born in our house and are raised beside our family. We consider each puppy to be unique in characteristics, and we dedicate the time spent together with them knowing their temperament and needs.
What does this mean? It means that our puppies are not chosen by color or from pictures.
We talk individually with ever person/family that considers having one of our babies. If the distance permits it we encourage you to come and visit us and the dogs. Meet them, spend a day with us and see if it is what you imagined.
Our puppies are raised with the Puppy Culture program. This means that from the 3rd day of life and until they leave for their new home we work with them on different levels. Socialisation, sound/surface/etc habituation, clicker training, crate training, attention, recall, leash training, etc. We also provide a video course + book for the future owners to help them understand the next steps in puppy raising. On top of all this, communication between us and you is key. Preparing the house, the accessories and everything you need to make your puppy feel at home when he/she arrives !
As I have said before, puppies are raised in our home with our children and are used to everyday life and activities!
Yes, Australians Shepherds can be a high drive bread. And this is why we like to pair puppies by character and temperament.
It means that when the puppies are 2-3 weeks old we give out a Deposit Contract to all the interested families. This contract is a general one, and states you will begetting 1 puppy out of X puppies in that litter, or 1 female/male out of Z/Y females or males, but does not state which puppy it will be. After this contract has been signed, the true work begins. We start sharing our resources for preparing you and your environment, we talk and encourage you to be as involved as possible. Based on our interactions with you and the puppies, we pair each one closely to 7-8 weeks of age.

Pet puppies/ Co-owning/ Show puppies:
Another important aspect of our breeding is that the majority of puppies are placed as Pet Quality puppies. What does this mean? This means that puppies are without Breeding of Show rights. All puppy pedigrees will remain with the breeder until the puppy is sterilised/castrated. The Pet Quality referes to nothing else but the pure paperwork that comes with the baby - it does NOT mean in any way that the puppy is less healthy or perfect ! They are, again, all the same in our eyes. Why do we do this ? Because the majority of people coming to us are not breeders or have any experience about aussies or breeding and we consider it important to hold the rains to the future of our breed tight and under supervision.
Co-ownership situations occur when we feel a puppy of a high quality can go to a family that is located near us or to a breeder/handler which whom we are able to comunicate closely. What does co-ownership mean ? It means that the breeding and show rights for the puppy are ours and the puppy is just a normal Pet puppy. IF we consider that the puppy is Show Quality when he/she has matured, then we will take the puppy to shows and do all the necessary measures for breeding.
Selling Show Quality puppies is a difficult choice, and we take it very very seriously. So if you are looking for something like this, you would have to be patient and colaborate closely with us !

So you want a Blue Merle with Blue Eyes ?!
When planing for a puppy, of course one of the first things that come to mind are : breed and looks.
And after that ? What do you do ? You go online and look for a puppy -> What you should do is go online and look for a breeder.
Why ? Because a true, dedicated, committed breeder will guide you, be there for you and help you with the information you need to make the right decision. Keep in mind such a decision is one you make for the next 15 years or so. So not only will it affect you, but your family, your kids, other animals, life style, your time, house, sports, activities.
Does looks vs. character matter? Oh yes. Why? Because each puppy, like each person is different. You may be a loaner with no dog experience, you may be a young family with a small child, you may own a cat/dog. So if you are active and get the low energy puppy. Who doesn't want to be your jogging partener ? Or if you have a small child and you get the puppy who is the independent and exporer -and doesn't really like cuddles? What if you are a loner and you need a cuddle partener and the puppy is just not that into that ! You have another dog and you want a companion ?
Think about more than looks:
- what is your activity level
- how much time do you spend away from home ( could be a positive or negative in both ways )
- a cuddler is more prone to separation anxiety and you would probably need to me proactive in teaching him/her to be alone )
- where do you live ? Do you have an environment around you that is dog friendly. Puppy schools/ trainer/groomer/pet hotel.
- do you have kids ? How old are they ? Or are you planning on kids in the future
- do you have other animals
- how much dog experience do you have
- what is the life you would envision with your dog
And now think about the puppy:
- what energy level would suit you
- would you like the puppy to be friendly with everyone or be more family/friends oriented
- would you like a dog that cuddles next to you all day, or one that is independent and expores more, who needs more challenges
- food or toy motivated, or again interested more in petting and closeness to his/hers owner.
- do you plan to have more dogs/cats. Or do you already have other pets - think about what would suit them as well- are they older, what is their activity level ?
- take into account that some dogs have hearding instincts and may act on them.
And in the end, after all this is in your mind. And you have taken everything into account Only then see if the color of the coat or eyes is really that important to you!!
